colors

asakiyume: (feathers on the line)
On Friday, people were in arresting colors. Taking Wakanomori in to work, I saw a girl wearing bright orange hightops, like in the upper right corner (only brigher).

Then on my way to the jail, I saw a mother and daughter, daughter on a tiny two-wheeler bike, mother alongside, like bottom right. They both had robin's-egg blue headgear: a bike helmet for the little one, a baseball cap for the mom.

Then *at* the jail, in the lobby, there was an older woman in a bright pink track suit, with black boots with bright flowers and leaves embroidered at the top--red, pink, yellow. It reminded me of Eastern European motifs, Ukrainian Easter eggs and Polish embroidery and such. This woman was looking at a picture book, The Girl Who Spun Gold, and my impression of the book cover was that it was all warm greens, golds, and browns (though looking at it online I see it's not really quite like that).

Here's a song by Utada Hikaru called "Colors," to go with the post.

[livejournal.com profile] yamamanama suggested drawing what the bright eye makeup looked like--so I did:

And furthermore, I tried it myself, today:

It was a good day today. Might have more pictures later...

yellow

My friend [livejournal.com profile] dudeshoes was asking if the color of spring is pink or purple (here is her sampling of purple).

I think maybe yellow needs to be a contender?

mustard, celandine, dandelions

We had dandelion greens for dinner the other night, fresh picked. They were bitter, but it was a good bitter.

ETA: Yellow, day two. Don't let anyone tell you that dandelions don't last if you pick them. They close up at night but reopen in the morning. Also, I picked more dandelions greens.

I want to share about books I've read recently, but it'll have to wait . . .

I have a word-ful post for you later, but first pictures.

It's distractingly beautiful out my window:

And did you ever wonder what a kitchen floor would look like if someone spilled cranberries over it? Here is the answer:

I think I see constellations in there. Con-cranberry-lations.

blue

asakiyume: (bluebird)
It's being whispered that guerrilla blue flowed in, under cover of mist, rolled right by the street lamps, as brazen as only blue can be.

People are nervous. We hear them murmur anxiously, and we knit our brows too, to make a show of worry. But when our eyes meet--yours, mine--we smile. Our secret delight, our secret triumph.

lights
asakiyume: (shaft of light)
It's calm, not a whitecap in sight, and there's sparkling manna everywhere, turning the grass to silver. The light is morning light, not dawn light anymore, but still long, and golden. Silver-golden. The long, silver-golden light of an inhaling, not the rose-golden light of evening, which is exhaling. Golden light has two sides? Morning and evening? Maybe that's it: the two sides of golden light are morning and evening. Or: golden light is a signpost, and one arrow points to morning, and the other to evening.

This golden morning light, with the leaves just so, and the road cool beneath my feet, is a place I inhabited first in dreams, but I come here often, now, and as I think about it, I'm glad we have three dimensions or more in which to give (and receive) directions, because some maps are hard to make, otherwise.

. . . And--an extra thought--when you inhale, like morning, your feet may come off the ground. Not that mine have, except in leaps, except in dreams, but they may. It is both permitted and possible.
