flowers!

I keep on meaning to do a real post but work keeps keeping me down. But only four more weeks now, yay!

Anyway, you'll be happy to know that today the cinderblock from last post had two beautiful flower bouquets, sitting on top of it. The rainbow-colored umbrella had blown into the road, so I stopped my car and retrieved it, and doing so, realized I couldn't see any way to pay for the bouquets. There probably is one? I didn't look hard. Or maybe the flowers are being offered for free. (But probably not ... that's the sort of assumption I make that is usually *wrong*).

The following photos are unrelated to the cinderblock, the bouquets, and the umbrella. The first is sunflowers; the second is the dappled path between the sunflowers.

They're not much grown as a crop plant here- it's a little too cool most of the time, although you see fields and fields of them all over southern Europe.

Lot's of folks here grow them for pleasure though including our neighbours.

They're one of those wonderful plants that are both a crop and a pretty ornamental!

Oh! I'm so glad to get this update on the cinderblocks! Good to know they DO have flowers sometimes.

And the sunflowers are gorgeous. Such happy flowers.

And just passed them this evening as someone was actually making a purchase--I was able to see the moneybox!

I love sunflowers, I wish they grew in fields around here.

I feel lucky to have them--and on the other side of the coin, I wish California poppies grew around here. (Some people do cultivate them, but it takes effort)

Me too; I love their spiraling centers and their sticky nectar.

Ah how lovely to walk among the sunflowers! Now I'm thinking of planting them next year. :)

That's an excellent idea--it really is magical to walk amongst them.

I hate that DW limits my icons! Can't have my sunflower icon here :(

Your sunflower picture reminds me that I need to make a post about my sunflower gardening no-no's gleaned from this year's growing endeavors. :P

I would *love* to hear the no-nos. Every time I grow sunflowers, their lower leaves wilt.

Mine do the same. Not that i am an experienced grower of them, nor do I have much data of my own to go off ...
