Is it a human person or a fairy being, imprisoned behind the leaf-vein bars? What was the crime, or were they falsely accused? When and how will they be freed, or will they free themselves?

A human in a fairy prison, perhaps? No human prison could be so delicate.

If they stay there too long - if they are not released, or no one comes to rescue them - do they became part of the tree? Or sink back into the earth, with the leaf?

This is the kind of artifact from a fairy story I craved (and tried to make) as a child.

When this fairy's angry mistress imprisoned her in a leaf and was about to burn it, her best friend/lover risked everything to steal it and press it into a special book, ran away, and searches desperately for a way to undo the spell before the leaf crumbles away to dust.
