I was also briefly confused about how this represented mysteriousness, because I grew up in redwood country as a forester's daughter, and learned about "goosepen" trees created by fire quite early in my life.
So, I had to mentally step back, and say to myself, "What if that's not the tree being on fire? What else might be causing that glow?" Then it looked mysterious! 😊
After I finished coloring I realized, hmmm, now it looks like the tree's on fire, when really what I wanted was a mysterious glow. My problem is that I never take enough time with things. If I really took time, then I'd make the trees look three-dimensional and dark, and you'd have a sense of deepening darkness as things went further back in the picture, and then also I would have chosen better-colored pens to show a light emanating from within the tree. Because yeah, especially right now, with California burning, there's nothing particularly mysterious about a tree on fire! Instead of taking the time, though,I just did whatever I could do in like ten minutes :-P
I didn't know about the goosepen effect--thank you for that link! The photo is amazing, and exactly what this looks like, LOL. Thanks for playing the believing game with the picture and seeing how it *could* be mysterious!
