At around 7:10 in the morning, I saw a spider clamber over this lemon. Apparently I timeshare the kitchen with a spider. It takes the wee, quiet hours, and I take the noisier daylight ones. As you can see from the photo, the spider is now nowhere in sight. It may be chilling on the far side of the lemon--maybe that's the best spot in the whole kitchen? The whole point, from the spider's perspective, of participating in this timeshare? Or maybe, aware of overstaying, it's tucked itself away somewhere else, somewhere nonkitchen.

Or maybe we don't have a timeshare, maybe we have a (much more common) spaceshare. The spider takes the small corners; I get the large expanses. Relatively large. Relatively small. Since I do use the counter, and the lemon, we may have a misunderstanding about terms. Hell, if I'm not sure whether it's a timeshare or a spaceshare or both, I can easily see room for misunderstanding.

I coexist with spiders, too. I speak to them, but they never answer. Not that I can hear, anyway.

"You've gotten yourself in a pretty precarious situation, there."
"..."

And then shortly after,

"You made it. I wasn't expecting that."
"..."

We need a frequency converter. My guess is that spiders speak at a much higher frequency. If your spider only knew about your encouragement, I'm sure it would appreciate it!

Spider perhaps thought the lemon provided the perfect opportunity to practice scaling curved terrain. :)

My first thought was, "ooh, I'd like to try that." Followed by, "but the lemon is too small for me."

If you two have a laissez-faire, why not timeshare?

But when I saw a black widow crawling over my pillow one night, it was war to the knife.

Yeah, life-threatening critters had best not try timesharing.

I love your thoughts about this. I myself like spiders, so it's delightful to see a post like this, rather than the usual "burn down the house" posts.

I mean, if the spider is the kind that can kill me, I will kill it first, regretfully. But most spiders really are "space sharing." :)

I know some people have phobias, but yeah, I don't mind. I'm different with ants--maybe because there are so many of them?

Or perhaps the spider was sold the kitchen as sole resident, and she's now wondering why you are trespassing in her space!

I share my spaces (kitchen and bathroom) with teeny spiders. They like the corners and places seldom used. :)

That which is most astonishing is that very often there appears at the end of these webs, spiders sailing in the air with them, doubtless with an abundance of pleasure, though not so much as I have beheld them and shewed them to others. And since I have seen these things I have been very conversant with spiders. Jonathan Edwards, October 31, 1723.

I had an unexpected space-time-share with a rather large spider in my living room. I'm afraid that it was so very large, and so surprising in its appearance, that I squashed it. Now its shadow reproaches me for the murderous act, a dark stain on the curtain. Forever haunted by the ghost of a spider.

See, it's a sign you're a thoughtful soul that you look at that stain and have *these* thoughts as opposed to cursing out the spider for causing you to wreck the curtains, as some might do.

I've been sharing the top of the dryer with a largish somewhat translucent spider for about a week now. It seems to like a washcloth that I tossed there because it needed another go-around with some bleach. Maybe the warmth is pleasant? Maybe the laundry room is infested with very small insects that want eating? It's a mystery.

It sounds like the sort of arrangement where both parties are supposed to politely ignore the other - or pretend not to see them. Maybe the spider was embarrassed because it was caught out.

From: [identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com
Yeah, it was a breach of etiquette on my part! Although, so long as the spider doesn't read this blog, maybe we're still good. I did, after all, ignore it.

I think it's both space and time sharing, and that it occupies more of the space during night times.

I find spiders VERY telepathic. If you think at them intently enough, they will respond. Also they are cooperative in my experience, and will stay out of sight if requested. (I admire them and wish them no harm, but can still get freaked out by the sight of them.) However, I too take no chances with the dangerous ones.
