Here is mist, sifted through a screen:

mist through a screen

And here is mist, unmediated:

mist on the last day of 2015

Today, on the other hand, is bright and sunny. The sun makes the snow sparkle and the crow's wings shine:

Nice textures, all

The bird bath water is frozen solid and I don't know how the birds drink in this 20+ degree weather. I'll chip it out a little later for them.

Yeah, they say that water is what birds and other little critters need even more than food when the temps go very low. I should put out a dish of water too.

I hate the misty, but it makes for evocative photos...

That it does!

What is it about misty that you hate? Is it driving in it? Or the feel on your skin, or--?

My husband and I call that "psychological cold." It doesn't matter if it's 60 degrees, my mind processes it as 30 degrees....so as pretty as it is, I don't enjoy it. I like my sunshine ;o)

I understand about psychology and how you feel the weather!

How beautiful! I love the mist.

How much snow do you have?

We're supposed to get a LOT (for us) of rain next week. 2 - 3 inches.

We don't have much at all, less than an inch--but it's scenic, at least. And cold now, which it hasn't been up to now!

I'm happy for any report of rain in California--I want your drought to end.

Those are lovely; thank you. I like the gloss of the crows' wings.

You're welcome. Me too. I just stared and stared at it. (Then I got out the camera.)

I'm glad you like them. It was an atmospheric morning... quickly the mist lifted, but it was beautiful while it lasted.

Three nice ones, especially Crow. I like the unfocused screening on the crow picture. It flattens it all out like the work is on a canvas rather than a photo. Paintings are a lot about surface, that is, the picture plane surface. It's the signature of the artist, which this photo seems to possess. I look at this one like a surface, rather than a space through a window. It's tactile.

I see what you mean! I was focused on the scenes, but when you point it out, I like what I see.

The mist is lovely from inside a warm house. And crows really come into their own in the winter, don't they?

I'm so happy to have a crow visitor! I've always wanted one. And yes, they really do.

We had the most crows when I was feeding stray cats. They loved the cat food. We also had a family of baby crows when we had both a really huge elm tree and a raspberry patch. That is all I know about attracting crows.

These days, I watch to see when our neighborhood is the place they gather at sunset to discuss where they'll spend the night. It's especially nice when they crowd into the neighbors' fir tree. Its topmost branches aren't strong enough to hold a mature crow, so the juveniles tilt up there and seem very pleased to be on the very top for a short time. Then the ones in charge make the decision and they all fly away noisily.

What a wonderful image--I love it. Also the noisy, sudden departure :-)

Clicking back to your angel cookie post, I came across this one again and realized I hadn't commented about how beautiful these images are and how mellow they make me feel. :D I would like to go for a stroll down that path in the second photo.

It's such a transient effect--there for maybe 20 minutes and then gone. I'd love it if we could stroll through such a scene together one day.
