I'm aaaaaalllmost ready to do an actual Sirens post. But before then, I'm going to share some photos from Morrison, Colorado, which [livejournal.com profile] amaebi kindly took me to so that I could be **in** the landscape of this beautiful mountainous state as opposed to just looking at the mountains painted on the sky, backdrop style.

She told me it's a little bit of a hippy town. This guy seems to go along with that. He looks to me like a tapir, which in Japanese is baku, which in Japanese is also the word for a mythical beast that eats dreams--nightmares, specifically. Gradually there's been an evolution in the way the baku is portrayed in art, from a chimerical creature to something like an actual tapir.

But the town also has an out-west feel, for sure. We ate in a place that had a jackalope head mounted on the wall:

And oh, the natural beauty....

I love the way the paint's been worn off his back, no doubt by all the kiddies having a ride! :o)

That's just what I was thinking as I was posting the picture!

Colorado is amazing, isn't it? I've been to Boulder twice and also Estes Park, which is further to the north-west, but the river and the rocky cliffs look somewhat similar.

It's so different from where I'm from! It reminded me of Australia, a little.

What beautiful pictures!

I can't wait to read your Sirens post. I keep thinking I'll make one, but life has been too crazy.

I *think* a Sirens post will be what comes next. I think.

(And yeah, your life has been over the top with stress)

Great photos, as usual! A nightmare eater sounds like a handy thing to have around, although possibly a well-fed nightmare eater is not a good sign. Then again, maybe you only remember the ones that didn't get eaten.

I could use a nightmare eater now and again. Two nights ago I had the sort of nightmare where you wake up, but that's not enough--you end up slipping back into it again. And sometimes bad dreams cling to you like a skin on the top of cocoa... hmmm, maybe that simile means I'd like some hot chocolate. I wonder if tapirs would take cocoa if nightmares were in short supply...

A good hot chocolate will cure a lot of ills. Maybe baku are attracted to the smell of warm milk. When we think it helps us to sleep, all it does is encourage the tapirs to swing by.

I still think Rocky Mountain High should be the national anthem.
