sunlight

I took a photo this morning of the sunlight that was shining into the kitchen, falling like a layer of bright, bright snow on the bench and the floor, prompting this imagined conversation:

"How much sunlight has accumulated this morning?"
"Not much; less than an inch."

This morning's accumulation of light

And when I took the photo off my camera, I discovered my last three photos, from the past few days, were all about light, too.

Small stone, sunbathing

Old snow, sparkling

Tree branches being a net for the light. And rails . . . light rails

I'll have some more thoughts later. In the meanwhile, enjoy this song by Atlas Lab.

Take your time. (I always do, LOL.) I liked the song!

I took one like your kitchen picture, of my living room with the sun shining in just the other day. I used my Kodak Duaflex 1, TTV with my big panasonic digital camera. I guess we like the look of sunlight streaming in this time of year.

I do like the generosity of the light at this time of year--stronger and longer lasting than during the winter months.

Of course, taking a photo without light is kinda interesting in itself. . . .

This morning's accumulation of light

That's really wonderful. I like the light-grit of snow, too.

If your boots have cracks in them, and you walk through a patch of light like this, you can guess what happens. Yup. Your feet get all lambent.

Oh, the light in that last one is especially magical.

The trees seem to have grown expressly to net some of that light.

Light must be on many minds these days. As I've been photographing these days, I've thought more that usual about the light, preferring some over-exposed images that seem to be exploding with light. Except the ones I took from beneath a giant brick kiln today, when Sprout was framed in an archway of light as seen from the darkness of my cave. I'll try to remember to post for you. In the meantime, I have a post of another kind to make...

That sounds dazzling, and perfect for today :-)

I love how, in each picture, some portion is in shadow as well and I like how it accentuates the light. Quite pretty, all. :)

Yes, the shadows are the siblings of the light, right? Conjoined twins, even--they go everywhere together.

Hope you didn't have to spend too long mopping up all that light that spilt on the floor.

I love the idea of a sunbathing stone!

Sunbathing stones are among the happiest stones--stones in the bottom of clear streams are also very happy.

These are beautiful! Thank you for posting them.

The sparkling-snow one reminds me of this photo (http://rsable.deviantart.com/art/Through-A-Looking-Glass-87515210) that my husband took back when we lived in Juneau. It's amazing, how different the light looks reflecting off a small piece of a glacier vs. a whole one.

That piece of glacier looks like a gemstone! Correction: it IS a gemstone. Marvelous.

P.S. I took the liberty of reblogging that image to Tumblr--but using the app on Deviant Art (i.e., it links back to the original post and gives credit).

Aw, thanks! I'm sort of sad my husband's more or less stopped doing photography; he was/is fantastic at it. But sometimes other life stuff gets in the way, and it's harder to do stunning nature shots when you're not living cheek by jowl with nature. (He used to joke that living in Alaska was a cheat code for a photographer; shots that most people would have to drive hours to find, he'd get while filling up at the gas station.)

We have a framed print of that one up on the wall. It's one of my favorites; glacier ice is so amazingly *clear*.

An accumulation of sunlight! Wonderful image!

I join the small stone in soaking up the sunlight... The sun is shining here, unheard of thing on an English Bank Holiday Monday. The weather has gone mad, mad I tell you.

I guess the rain has decide that this bank holiday it will vacation somewhere else.

"Light rails" slays me. :)

There are of course those who hold that all photography is about light, and of course technically, it is. (And now I'll look at your other comments and see at least one other person saying that. :D )

I like [livejournal.com profile] marycatelli's suggestion that photographing without light would be interesting. The Darkness Photographer.

And glad light rail hit you the way it hit me ;-)

In my mind light is best accumulated on the stone and on old snow...))))
