There isn't an entry for June 29 in Pen Pal, but there's an entry for June 28. It's from the ship's log of the captain of a boat employed by Loop Current Charter Fishing Tours--the first person to find Em's message in a bottle. Here's a fragment of his log entry.

And for fun, since there are lots of lovely images if you search "ship's log" in Google image search, here is an image of a ship's log from a page on the Royal Canadian Navy's website:

I hope there is a book of artifacts to accompany the novel.

I love the handwriting in the log entry from the Canadian navy page.

As for a book of artifacts, maybe one day!

We saw a bottle floating down the river where we were camping in Vermont. It did not, sadly, have a message in it. But there were otters! And a snapping turtle.

Otters!!!

And snapping turtles are so clearly prehistoric creatures, with all their spikes and turrets.

Haha, I loved seeing the captain's log about Em's letter, and the picture of the real ship's log is so cool! :3 Thank you for always sharing such cool stuff!

Oh, I love it!

You should compile all these daily entries into another novel!!!

Maybe into a resource book, at least!

A book of documents would be really really cool.

Yeah--for some of the stuff--like the log book from the Royal Canadian Navy page--I'd probably have to see about getting permissions and things, but it could still be fun.

Very cool. Prompted me to look up Makemo.
I am glad the captain made this choice; otherwise Pen Pal might not have been written.

Yes, it makes me wonder what else that particular sea captain got up to...

And your looking it up prompted me to look it up. Wonderful! I loved the quaint language in this source (http://encyclopedia.jrank.org/PAS_PER/PAUMOTU_TUAMOTU.html).

What a cool idea to look up ship's logs. I have excerpts from one such log in one of my WIPs, but I never thought of looking up images from them.

I really like that a tiny act of kindness to an (unknown) stranger is so pivotal. :)

And in the story, like in real life, he probably never knew what his decision led to :-)

I was intrigued by the fact you were listening to a song called "Deep Wide Ocean" while writing about ship's log and bottles with messages in them, so I went to itunes and checked it out. Pretty snappy tune!
