A few months back I found a sad thing: a copy of Beatrix Potter's The Tailor of Gloucester frozen open in the ice on the road, and all mangled. I managed to pry the book free from the ice--minus its cover--but it was in bad shape.

But clever [livejournal.com profile] wakanomori realized that some of the pictures could be saved:

Beatrix Potter

And when I saw that, I realized--these could be turned into cards. And so---

(There are others, but I'm only sharing the ones that I've already sent to people--no spoilers ^_^)

Those are absolutely delightful! Beatrix Potter's illustrations are perfect for a project like that. And it's great that you made something beautiful from that poor, lost book.

I can't tell you how grateful I am to Waka for realizing that the pictures could be saved. I just felt so bad for the book, and that feel-bad feeling kept me from seeing what he saw. Once he rescued the pictures, it was easy to get to the step of making cards.

Oh, nice. :)

I like the photograph of the frozen book.

And think on, you freed it!

At the time, I wished I'd been able to save the cover too--I briefly had images of going back with hot water to melt the ice so I could get the cover…. but that was a bridge too far.

There is really no one quite like you, Asakiyume! How wonderful that you felt a need to rescue, you shared with another person, and then came up with a new life for the Tailor.

There are just lovely!

Have you heard of art trading cards? You might enjoy making those as well. Little pieces of art to trade like baseball cards.....

I experimented a few years ago with making some cards, using tissue box backgrounds and ink or digital ink stamps that I then colored in. The ones I did were part of a little relay contest where you made a card each day using the free digital images that the company was giving away. If you'd like to see, they are here:

Those are adorable! Yes, I've heard of art trading cards. I had a babysitter back when we first moved here--a real free spirit and creative soul, and we stayed in touch, and she introduced us to art trading cards. The girls have done some wonderful ones. I've got one that Little Springtime made me on the occasion of my trip to Timor-Leste in my wallet.

Saving The Tailor of Gloucester earns so many points, the 'points awarder device' (P.A.D.) will almost certainly break. ;)

I salute you! (And the cards are lovely!)
