So perfectly fractal.
(I remember there was a Caltech professor who made a fascination out of photographing snowflakes, though not in their natural outdoor home. Did you ever see his book?)

I think I have seen the book, or anyway, photos from it. Amazing and beautiful.

I know that lakes in *really* cold regions (northern Canada, etc.) grow tremendous hoarfrost flowers (here (http://bigskiesjewellery.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/frost-flowers-bloom-over-young-sea-ice-in-the-central-artic-ocean-photographer-matthias-wietz.jpg) is a spectacular example)--these are like their little tiny cousins.

It's like the opposite of real flowers, where the ones in alpine or arctic regions are tiny, and the ones in the tropics are huge.

The top one looks the most like an abstract painting composition, especially with that reddish line going across. I like it the best of these three perfect beauties.

They were entrancing--I thought I'd just take one picture but kept on seeing another and then another that was beautiful.

Is it very cold where you are right now? If so, if you can go out somewhere where there's ice in the open air (a wide place), you might see some.

The hoarfrost has been gorgeous this week, true. I find it on the sheep sometimes, imagine that!

Every year, I vow to lay on the ground during one of these real cold snaps, to watch the hoarfrost grow, but I've never done it yet. Even with my best winter camping gear, the risk of hypothermia is very high right now because of the wind chills. Some day...

Wow, what a wonderful and hardcore idea! It never even occurred to me that that would be possible, but sure, it has to be! "She risked her life to watch the hoarfrost bloom"

thank you so much for these

I wonder what you would have made of my aura migraine spot if you could have seen it. Oh and I have 348!

I would love to have seen it (but without any pain, please--and I wish *you* did not have to have the pain, either). I once had a visual migraine--only once--it was after I'd given birth for the first time, and suddenly the whole right side of my vision was obscured by a rainbow shimmering waterfall of light and color. I freaked out! I thought I was going blind! But it went away in 20 minutes.

And Yaaaay! for 348 pages ♥
