There are probably not many who read me who don't read [livejournal.com profile] sartorias, but for the few--here, via [livejournal.com profile] sartorias, is the latest "Where's Matt" video, featuring, among other places, Damascus, Syria; Kabul, Afghanistan; Karachi, Pakistan; Pyongyang, North Korea; and Irbil, Iraq, as well as Vienna, Port au Prince, Talinn, New Orleans, Kigali, Terelj (Mongolia), and many more, including two cities I've actually lived in--Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Kyoto, Japan ([livejournal.com profile] khiemtran, it's the Fushimi Inari shrine, I think). As in other videos, he also dances with animals, under water, and this time he also dances on the deck of what I guess is an aircraft carrier--the USS Abraham Lincoln.

Yes, looks like it! At least I can claim to have passed through Hong Kong, Bratislava, Vienna and Kyoto so far this year. And Melbourne.

You must be on his film crew!

(or are you an international spy, sent to trail him?)

Just noticed the second bit... No, I'm just a humble and perfectly innocent engineer.

Actually, I have no idea who this guy is, and why I should be interested that he is traveling all over the place? Other than to be glad that he has extremely good fortune, that is.

Also, you lived in Kyoto? That is EXPEEEEENSIVE! But probably pretty awesome.

I lived there thanks to a stipend from the Japanese government, so I was shielded from the expense! (And for part of the time I was in government-supplied housing to boot.)

It was pretty awesome :-)

Here (http://www.wherethehellismatt.com/about) is his story. He *is* extremely fortunate, but part of it is imagination and judicious clever thinking on his part (e.g., getting the sponsorship that gave him the funds to really do the trip up properly).

The first of his videos I saw was from 2010, and by that time, what was happening was that people would come join in when he started doing his silly dance. (If you look at the video from 2008, you'll see him dancing alone, so you'll see what it used to be like.) I think, for me, it was that joining-in that made me love the videos. In the 2010 video, there are some places where it's just a handful of kids, and other places where it's a huge crowd.

I think it's a way of bringing people together. I mean, it's limited. It's not a foreign policy tool or anything. But the people who participate enjoy themselves, and people watching it enjoy themselves, so.

So... he's not Sartorias? I thought they were the same person for a bit. XD

The video/your post makes more sense in the context of that link, though. ^_^

LOL, no, Sartorias is just the LJ person whose post alerted me to the new video :-)

Whoops, and actually it was from 2008, the video I first saw: link here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY).

I love it for so many reasons. Dancing with whales! And dogs. And with large groups and small.

You can see how he has built on the idea, in this most recent video.

This video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue1GZ4IUFiU&list=FLo0GutI3-RQgZaiv9oqf77g&index=96&feature=plpp_video) is him talking about getting other people to dance with him.

Too much happiness all at once, now my tear ducts hurt.
If I'm not careful the family will catch me smiling and crying.
Better have some coffee.

Right?

Hey, Waka tells me you posted about the dawn chorus somewhere, maybe FB. I took a recording this morning when I was walking Molly at 4:30--may post later.

Wasn't me... all I can hear is my kids, the a/c, and my stupendous inability to turn this lead-female character into something exciting without hearing all of feminism screaming in my head.

All of feminism screams at me a lot for a lot of my female characters too... at least in my head. In real life people actually have been more supportive than I expected.

Tweetie and I enjoyed watching this. So much so, we watched it twice. We have no idea who Matt is, but it looks like he's having a great time, and sharing it! I'll check out the links re: his mission later today! Thanks.

I just love-love-love the thought of you guys watching this. You should check out the one from 2008, which is the first one I saw: link here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY).

(You can see how his concept has grown and developed--both from dancing alone, to dancing to people, and in terms of the places. I think there was *more* diversity in the crowds--in terms of skin shades, anyway-- in the 2008 version, though I like that the 2012 version has wheelchair dancing.)

WOW, on many different fronts! Happiness on his side and on those involved, reaching out, breaking barriers-just some of the plusses of traveling, if you dare get out of your comfort zone. Thanks much, F. Really enjoyed this.

My favorite dancing bit may actually be Budapest (1:29).

Yes, I particularly noticed the dancing at that part too! And I was wondering, do you suppose that's a riverboat, or a houseboat, or?

I'm guessing a Danube ferry or riverboat.

Hard to know which is wildest: North Korea, Suadi Arabia, Zimbabwe, Papua New Guinea? Wow! What fun!

Dudeshoes, you really must see the 2008 video. It included the Demilitarized Zone (precursor to 2012's Pyongyang, I guess!), Nellis airspace (an artificially generated zero-gravity environment), and dancing with whales <3

link here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY).

I love everything about these videos.

As a dancer, I love these videos, so I'm so glad you linked! The part at SeaWorld in San Diego made me tear up with homesickness, and I was amazed at the bits in Pyongyang. I've closely followed any information coming out of North Korea for several reasons, so I know how tight the reins are on any outside media.

Little Springtime is very interested in Korea and in the situation in North Korea, so yeah, I took special notice of that, too. What's cool to me is that in the 2008 video he danced in the Demilitarized Zone, and here in 2012 it's North Korea itself!

I did! Some folks decided to get dressed up, I guess.
