There are probably not many who read me who don't read
sartorias, but for the few--here, via
sartorias, is the latest "Where's Matt" video, featuring, among other places, Damascus, Syria; Kabul, Afghanistan; Karachi, Pakistan; Pyongyang, North Korea; and Irbil, Iraq, as well as Vienna, Port au Prince, Talinn, New Orleans, Kigali, Terelj (Mongolia), and many more, including two cities I've actually lived in--Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Kyoto, Japan (
khiemtran, it's the Fushimi Inari shrine, I think). As in other videos, he also dances with animals, under water, and this time he also dances on the deck of what I guess is an aircraft carrier--the USS Abraham Lincoln.

Date: 2012-06-21 07:52 am (UTC)The first of his videos I saw was from 2010, and by that time, what was happening was that people would come join in when he started doing his silly dance. (If you look at the video from 2008, you'll see him dancing alone, so you'll see what it used to be like.) I think, for me, it was that joining-in that made me love the videos. In the 2010 video, there are some places where it's just a handful of kids, and other places where it's a huge crowd.
I think it's a way of bringing people together. I mean, it's limited. It's not a foreign policy tool or anything. But the people who participate enjoy themselves, and people watching it enjoy themselves, so.

Date: 2012-06-21 10:22 am (UTC)I love it for so many reasons. Dancing with whales! And dogs. And with large groups and small.
You can see how he has built on the idea, in this most recent video.
