the girls next door

I've been having a lot of fun with the girls next door. Last Saturday I read them Mousekin's Golden House, and unbeknownst to me, their mom took some pictures:





I said offhand to the older sister that she should write a story ... and the next day SHE CAME BACK TO ME WITH ONE. (I felt so influential!) And it's adorable. It's about the family's cats, Tulip and Cheeto:

"But after he had his surgery they have been fighting a lot more, which is weird"


"All about Cheeto: He is a very playful kitty. He is very cute."


"All about Tulip: She is old in kitty ages, but she is still cute."


They've also joined in when I've done chalk drawings recently. Here's my cardinal with red-winged blackbird on a pumpkin...

... I'll leave you with the chipmunk king. Recent rains have erased him, but he was a just and generous overlord while he reigned.

Long live the chipmunk king!

I bet the girls next door are so happy to have you as a buddy, too. Both on the general principle that you are delightful, but also especially because they must be pleased to be getting to know someone new in this strange and difficult year.

The day we were chalk drawing, the younger one impulsively gave me a hug (she barely comes up to my waist!) when it was time for them to go--I was very 💕💕💕!
