Mr. Medium and Hot Mama

I saw these fun salsa labels last time I was at my dad's. They were in a little corner deli in his town. I would read a graphic novel illustrated by whoever did the designs, a graphic novel about Hot Mama, Mr. Medium, Mild Child, and Auntie Verde. Hot Mama is a single mom, an artist and adventurer. Mild Child is her kid. Auntie Verde works for a big company and is always getting her sister and nephew out of fixes, but she's not really a corporate type: she loves to garden and knows the names of all the birds. Mr. Medium is a mysterious visitor to their town. He seems to have Powers. But what are his intentions??

The power of capsaicin will of course be key. Maybe each chapter will feature a different chile pepper. Like the Peruvian Aji Charapita pepper, which I think is what I brought back with me from the Amazon.

OMG, and the company was based in the town I grew up in! But the cute labels date from when the elderly founder sought an investor, himself being 72 and wanting a break. But the investing company is fairly local too, so that's good. Read more in this trade magazine article, where you can see the much more staid original labels.

What's the verde hotness level? Because I've had different salsa verdes of different hotness.

Oh, I was thinking that Mr. Medium ws *married* to Hot Mama, and lived a fruitless quest to get her to restrain herself.

That sounds like it would be a world of frustration for both of them! She's clearly a spirit that needs to be free. And the way this guy is drawn--that mustache, those eyes. He may seem mild but there's an extra something going on. But I can't put my finger on what.

I checked the website's version, and it does sort of imply that they're married though--it says "welcome to the family," and it says for him, "Mr. Medium would tell you that in his family there's always room for compromise, and that's where this wise man shines. Never afraid to see the merits of both and hot, Mr. Medium has achieve harmony by learning from the best ideas both can offer"--which has me scratching my head a little. Maybe in their imagination he's married to Auntie Verde.

Hope it is super tasty. I am such a fan of homemade that I don't know that I would buy any, but I know for lots of people, it is a good convenience food.

I'm afraid that I wasn't thinking of Mr. Medium as embodying what I'd call good will, so much as patriarchy! :D

They really DO look like character designs for a graphic novel or perhaps an animated children's mini-series. After some ambiguity, Mr. Medium turns out to be a force for good (perhaps fighting off evil developers, Scooby-Doo style?), and also perhaps marries Hot Mama? Or maybe Auntie Verde. Hot Mama might need to be a free spirit, but Auntie Verde perhaps is ready to settle down and grow a big garden with Mr. Medium.
