The house I rented in grad school had a Japanese knotweed infestation. The roots were a long way down and close to the house, so eradication wasn't an option. When I moved in there were plants over 6 feet tall. We kept it under control by trimming each new sprout and squirting Roundup down the stems. We then had to put the sprouts in the trash, because composting them would just create new plants. It's a horrible plant.
