more full of leaves

Come away, human child, for the world is more full of leaves than you can ever know.

leaves

Come away to where the blackberries grow

blackberries

Step in, step in deeper, into shadow. There are more fruits there, hidden, sweet, and black.

fruits in the shadows

Who and what were in this world?

Crows saying, autumn's coming. autumn's coming. I know that, crows. I know. I can read cool drenching dews and sharp skies too, you know. I know what blackberries mean.

Also titmice, singing one minute and raising an alarm the next. And something that rustled by the stone wall, something dark, not a shadow, because its darkness was sleek. I couldn't get a sense of size. What creature are you? Let me see your ears or eyes, so I can know. But the leaves hid it. Then, a moment later, a pointed ear, a green eye. Cat! You're the one alarming the titmice, then.

Also this small creature

tiny friend

And this magic fruit

a treasure fruit

And out my window now? Circles of light and dark, dancing.

circles of light and shadow

Marvellous!

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2012-07-30 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Blackberries, birds, sunlight, shadows--definitely.

I've been waiting all day just for this. I needed this. Thank you so much.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2012-07-30 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
So very happy to have what you needed. Wish I could give you a blackberry.

[identity profile] xjenavivex.livejournal.com 2012-07-30 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
you gave me dancing light and trees. perfect.

[identity profile] ashlyme.livejournal.com 2012-07-30 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, nice! Is that a shield bug among the berries? I love blackberry leaves when they turn that marvellous deep red, especially if they've been mazed by leafminers.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2012-07-30 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Shield bug! That's what it's called. My mind was coming up with "helmet bug," which I knew was wrong.

[identity profile] yamamanama.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's what he is?

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! If you search Google images, you'll find lots of pretty images.

[identity profile] yamamanama.livejournal.com 2012-07-30 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool looking insect.

I like him too.

Circles of light and dark, dancing.

That's not a bad description for the blackberries, either.

^_^

true!

Glad you enjoyed :-)

It's JULY! Crows and advertisers should have the decency to wait for three weeks to carry on so!

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
There's no help for it--the katydids are singing at night. The goldenrod's coming into bloom. The grapes are beginning to ripen!

That's what it was like in the morning when I was picking the berries--wistful and mouthwatering.

Thank you for sharing this beauty. It does a heart good.

Excellent--my aim is accomplished!

One day a crow will land on your shoulder and speak to you in English because the animals trust you.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
If he comes and perches on my shoulder, I'll be so happy, he can speak to me in any language he likes :-)

[identity profile] barry-king.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm at a loss with the treasure fruits. Strange and wonderful when that happens.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it might be a hazelnut fruit? Maybe. I'll go back and see how it develops.

[identity profile] barry-king.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I think you're right. They do have that sheath of leaves before they ripen... Interesting.

Cara Sposa's wanted one for years. I found one at Vicky's Veg a couple of months ago and we brought it home. Still haven't planted it yet. Still looking for just the right amount of space (and debating whether to take out the dying birch in the back rear. It's being eaten by some kind of vine.

[identity profile] dudeshoes.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Blackberries are one fruit best eaten as soon as picked. They don't last. Something so special isn't meant to last, I'd say.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I ate a bunch, then made the rest into a blackberry buckle, which we had last night.

Ooh, last of summer and autumn-onset, with its hint of the promise of future snow...

Are there good picking-blackberries nearby?
