Lagoonfire proof, cosmos and bees

The mail brought a welcome item--my uncorrected proof for LAGOONFIRE!

I must go through it carefully and root out typos! The Polity approves of rooting out errors.

Last book featured a deity who wasn't ready to be retired. This one features a bunch of retired gods. How do they spend their time? How does the Polity treat them? You can learn a lot about a government by how it treats its decommissioned deities.

I've been spending too much time just working, but when I'm not, I step outside to enjoy the cosmos ... by which I mean the flower called cosmos, but hey, it's part of the bigger cosmos, so both things, actually.

cosmos flowers

Seems like each blossom held its own bee:

By the time I got those photos, late-ish today, the bees all seemed to be sleeping, but this morning they were active, flying blossom to blossom, but always politely socially distancing when they saw a blossom was already occupied.

It's past 5 pm, local time. Have an autumn brew.

Your photos were a balm to my heart. Outside, the last two or so inches of a record October snowfall are falling, very beautifully, but weighting down the still fully-leafed, partly-green branches of the Norway maples. There's already a branch the size of a decent sapling lying in the front yard from recent high winds. I only hope it may not be joined by any more before this all melts or gets rained away later in the week.

How DO the retired deities spend their time? This is now a burning question! (Obvs you should not answer it here, I should wait for the book, but nonetheless! Burning.)

I love those cosmos flowers.

Drinking autumn brew out in the cosmos--peak ... peak something! October, maybe?

Definitely peak October. Also Greer Gilman's Cloud.

Your cover is soooo beautiful.

I can't wait until the novella can be purchased. I am dying to read it.

You have so many beautiful things in your life.

Congratulations! The photos are lovely!

Daisy-family flowers seem to be very good for bees generally. I was in the Vienna Botanic Garden in mid-November once (it's very nice, a small, traditional garden attached to the University, so very plainly and practically laid out like a scientifically-minded allotment), but it had a spectacular bush of some sort of aster, in a lovely shade of fluorescent violet, still in full flower, and absolutely covered with bees.

Each flowerhead was very small, but there were a lot of them. I will try to find the photo...

Congratulations on the manuscript!

Did you grow yr cosmos from seed or from seedlings? I had a bunch of cosmos in my garden back in June, purple and white. They are so beautiful.
