late afternoon picnic

Behind this grand old mill building is the Mill River, which [livejournal.com profile] teenybuffalo took me to several years ago.

Little Springtime, the healing angel, and I went down to the very spot she had shown me (and, actually, the healing angel was along on that trip too), but really what we wanted to get to was a sandy island a bit upstream. The problem was that there was a waterfall between us and upriver at this point.

The healing angel hopped quite nimbly across the river and signaled to us, after a time, that we would find a place to scramble down on our side if we walked back along the highway a bit.

We walked back up the highway, and sure enough, did find a place to scramble down to the water.

Here is the healing angel, already on the island we want to get to.

Little Springtime waded over

It was such a lovely spot! You can see the mill building in the distance.

Swallows, metallic blue on top and pale yellow underneath, were swooping and diving over the water, catching insects. Sometimes they'd skim the water, taking a drink. Sometimes they passed right by our shoulders, ears. You can borrow their wings when they do that, fly with them up into the sky--wonderful.

We drove home in the long, late-afternoon light. A good day.

PS Would you like to know what we had for our picnic?

Cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches, which Little Springtime made, boiled eggs, limeade, and Biscoff cookies, which Wakanomori introduced us to before heading off to the land of the rising sun.

That sounds tasty.

I'm drinking limeade now.

Limeade Twins!

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
How very beautiful!

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
It was--I wish I could open a window in the sky and let you walk through to see with your own eyes.

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
*giddy at the very thought*

What a lovely spot!

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved it the first time I went, and I've always wanted to go back. Yesterday was perfect.

[identity profile] teenybuffalo.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, how lovely! It makes me happy that you've returned to the place I initially showed you. I'm longing to revisit it as well.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
So, so grateful to you for sharing that spot. That whole get-together was wonderful.

Oh, what a beautiful day you had! And what a lovely spot for a picnic!

Delicious lunch menu, too!

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a wonderful day. The healing angel even said, "Today was a good day"--which was remarkable.

Ever since I was tiny, I have known that if I were to become a bird I would want to be a swallow.

Did you know that chimney swifts are in terrible decline? Chimneys are vieu jeu.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know that about chimney swifts! Here is the first place I've lived that I've noticed them, and here they seem all right (which is to say, they seem *present*. I'm very sorry to hear that; I *love* them.

And yes, to be a swallow would be wonderful.

A lovely day. Do you think they'd mind if you didn't return their wings?

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
They might be a little annoyed... but maybe they'd just turn into very fast swimming, gorgeous river eels instead.

[identity profile] puddleshark.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
So beautiful... I can feel the stones underfoot and the coolness of the water. Thank you.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I like to think of your spirit presence wading there <3

I need to visit some water. Yesterday was vary productive, though; mom and I smudged her house and buried a St. Joseph and got her an offer on the thing. Finally. Not a great offer, but an offer.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you do find water this weekend. Did you get out at all today?

(Excellent news... well, moderately excellent news--about your mom's place.)

[identity profile] cucumberseed.livejournal.com 2015-05-25 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
I got in a walk, which was nice. I visited my dad and stepmom in the forest, which was also quite nice. The creek is a dry bed, though, for the time being, and choked with poison ivy, so no water, today.

What a great adventure!

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It was most excellent.

[identity profile] duccio.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Delightful. Find any treasure on the island?

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-24 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
A rock with gorgeous mica in it, and a piece of pottery!

[identity profile] avalonestel.livejournal.com 2015-05-25 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Such a lovely, lovely day. I wish I could have been with you guys. So wonderful to see the pictures, and it sounds like you had a delicious lunch! *huuuugs*

lol, tell Little Springtime to write to me! It's been too long.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-26 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish so tooooo! One day. One day we'll go wading in a river together.

[identity profile] avalonestel.livejournal.com 2015-05-28 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
And stroll in the sand like birds. <3

[identity profile] mnfaure.livejournal.com 2015-05-26 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't have limeade that day, but I did have Honey and Basil Lemonade. :D Close enough, wouldn't you say?

And that place is lovely and magical and inviting...thanks for taking us along.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-05-26 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Not only close enough, but inspiring. I'm going to infuse some basil into my next lime- or lemonade.

Thank you for coming <3
