an ice scape

Here is a playground the Snow Queen designed for little Kay, full of the beauties and mysteries of ice. Mysteries like, how does is shine like this?

Mysteries like, how do these pieces fit together, and why did they come apart?

ice

And beauties like this suspended pendant, the size of an old LP. Maybe they were playing this record some nights past, and dancing on this slippery dance floor.

Oh, my, that's beautiful! It looks like someone dragged their finger across the surface of the ice to create designs!

Is that standing water that froze?

Thank you so much for sharing!!!

It is standing water that froze. The area's low lying, and when it rains or freezing-rains, it fills up.

Wow that is beautiful

It was wonderful to be walking there--an absorbing otherworld.

Yeah! I thought so too.

Always honored and touched by your kind words

I'm really starting to appreciate the changes of warm and cold that make the ice so... weird. Yes, weird works.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-01-23 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they're like freaky tectonic plates.

Desert girl shivers, just looking at all that ice. I love the way you not only find beauty in the world around you, but connect it to fairy tales. The Snow Queen is one of my favorites.

Me too.

It was a joy to come upon.

Oooh, that first picture in particular - so beautiful. No wonder Kay went with the Snow Queen.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-01-23 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Right? The Snow Queen knew what she was about.

[identity profile] amaebi.livejournal.com 2015-01-23 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yesterday morning the snow and freezing rain here had made the school parking lot into a slippery field of gems. The ice and snow like to joke that way, saying, "See? See? what's this word `prosaic'?"

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-01-25 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, the snow and ice have a sense of humor that's, how shall we say... sharp and bright!

(I love a slippery field of gems)

What a lovely place you live in! And yes, for Kay, trying and trying to spell 'eternity' from shards of ice. (Brilliant, brilliant story!)

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-01-25 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I should have guessed that you'd love that story too ♥

lovely

Beautiful - flowing and then frozen water amidst woods that are homes that are now bridged by the ice.

Re: lovely

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-01-25 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! That's true--the ice forms huge, delicate bridges between them.

[identity profile] khiemtran.livejournal.com 2015-01-23 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the spots of light in that first picture.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-01-25 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It could come from candles beneath the ice rather than the sun shining from above.

[identity profile] mnfaure.livejournal.com 2015-01-25 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
I love how the first picture looks both sinister and inviting, depending which area you concentrate on...

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-01-25 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Perfect description of ice--both sinister and inviting.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2015-01-25 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the bones--it needs your frosty windows for decoration.
