A railway bridge, Google, coffee shop

I told [livejournal.com profile] sovay about this railway bridge--the tracks are gone now; it's a hiking trail--for the Delaware & Hudson line. There are dandelions and sumac growing on this bridge now.

The D&H

I do love its flourishing style and debatable quotation marks . . .

The D&H

Here, the restaurant instructs passersby to Google the chamber of commerce for menus (though I like reading this as "Google chamber"--do you dare to enter the Google chamber?)

Google chamber

But a church in the same town warns that you won't find all your answers through Google

A church opines on Google

Past the church, the coffee shop has its doors open--maybe you'll find some answers in a cup of . . . Java? Joe? What other names for coffee? ("Java," by the way, is used as a name for coffee in The Grapes of Wrath---I didn't know the slang was that old.) [livejournal.com profile] osprey_archer, I thought of you when I took the coffee shop photos :-)

There are five grades of coffee, in descending order:

Coffee
Java
Jamoke
Joe
and Carbon Remover.

(Credit is due Robert Anson Heinlein for this list.)

(EDIT: I can only surmise he limited it to five because he had not tried espresso when he made the list. It's number six. --Be it said, on a list of laxatives it is just below magnesium sulfate in effectiveness.)

It's a style of railway bridge that seems to be the same the world over.

I like that bridge, and its rusting shield.

See, I read Google as being Beth Chambers' spouse! At least we know their surname now. :)

ETA: I first heard the term "Java" in an Ink Spots song, but I'm fairly sure "Grapes" predates that.

MapQuest can help fill in some of the blanks. My favorite searches often take me through twists and turns on Wikipedia though.

Thank you for sharing this.

It is amazing how Google (and the Internet in general) has become so omnipresent in our lives and world. I still remember when it wasn't so.

I do like the coffee shop photo! I also went to a charming coffee shop last night; I had a turtle cupcake and my friend Chelsea had a Nutella latte. When the weather gets a bit cooler, I must try making hot chocolate with Nutella instead of plain chocolate.

Sounds kinds of sinister . . . the Beth Chamber, the Google Chamber . . .

That looks like a fun hiking trail. We are supposedly getting one in Sydney on an old goods line. What is the sign on the door saying? Use the next door? Or go next door to buy cakes?

I frequently search for answers in a cup of coffee. If it was the perfect blend I expect I'd find them! Neat photos.
