OMG LOL, I was totally framed as the girl with the splinter of ice in her heart ("cold," "distant," "unforgiving") growing up because I hated my father's narcissistic dramatics and refused to get pulled into emotional blackmail. So I know what it's like having emotional reactions (or lack thereof) that are not what people or society seem to want. It could also be the distancing effect of translation, which is a real thing, or the book just didn't ping you the way it did everybody else. I thought your review of it was lovely, anyway. It told me a lot more than most meaningless superlative-ridden reviews of this book did!
