It's definitely a style of representation! Not my preferred one, but a common one--and even though it's not my preferred one, I can enjoy stories with that style of god ... I think possibly because what name you attach to a thing doesn't matter so much. If the author calls a character a god, but they're basically just a superhero, I think of them in my own head as a superhero and read on.
