noachoc was asking about the legal status of church sanctuary, and it looks like there isn't any: it's like not arresting people at hospitals or schools--a church is considered a "sensitive location" .... at least until it isn't. This is one of those things that counts on "optics," but it's tricky to rely on that.

Right now Lucio's in prison just as he would be if he were in ICE detention in the sense that he's trapped in the church. However, being there lets him keep seeing his family, gives the cause a visible symbol/situation/state to rally around, and *maybe* will end in a judgment in his favor. Senator Markey visited him. We'll see what happens. And of course he's just one of many...
