The American variant on the show, Elementary, makes Sherlock a more forgiveable character. He tries to not be an asshole. Granted, he fails miserably, but he seems aware of his tendencies and makes an effort to be human. Plus turning aspects of the story on its head by making Watson a smart, strong, Asian female appeals to my habit of slaughtering sacred cows.
