thunderstorm blues

We're having a thunderstorm just now. Actually, it seems to be fading, but the thunder at the height sounded just like someone pounding a door and stomping around in heavy work boots.

thunder knocking at my door

thunder knocking at my door

what you stomping round here for?

don't want your lightning or your rain

don't want your lightning or your rain

you bring 'em to me all the same

and now I hear you're going away

you're rolling off and going away

I almost wish you'd maybe stay

Last time I tried to sleep through a thunderstorm, I thought it sounded like Thor and Marduk bowling with hand grenades.

I love thunderstorms, but we almost never get them.

so it's a love hate relationship with those storms, huh. I get that.

I am just here to applaud your simile.

Thunder and lightening are a rarity here. One year I was in Chicago for a writing conference and I stayed up most of the night glued to the window in awe.

Same thing the next year in Maine visiting my husband's family, and then again in Boston about 6 years ago. What an experience!

Actually, the truth is that I out and out love storms (though sometimes they're frightening). This was more of a persona :-)

The furious generosity of a storm. Gotta love it.

[livejournal.com profile] sovay's right--this is a seriously awesome simile. "Bowling with hand grenades" ought to become a catchphrase.

When you do, it must be such a huge blessing. A wild tumultuous one.

Especially if you get to see lots of lightning forks--I love those. And for this storm, we got to see all the roiling, boiling dark clouds before the rain came. So awesome--in the old sense of the word!

We were out snooping around Weslyan last night as it rolled in, got home about 20 minutes ahead of it. I wish it did a better job of getting cool air in through the windows...

Actually it's Thor, swinging his lightning hammer, while riding over the sky with his goat drawn carriage. ;)

Sounds like you got the same storm I did. Glorious, wasn't it. And brief.

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2014-07-24 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet you even got RAIN!

[identity profile] docdad2.livejournal.com 2014-07-24 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
We had some whoppers yesterday. I, and the fields, are pleased with the results.

Oh yeah, got them thunderstorm blues...

[identity profile] deponti.livejournal.com 2014-07-25 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sweating in Sweden at 29 deg C...can you send some of that to me please?

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2014-07-25 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
How are you this morning, temperature-wise? We're positively autumnal--which I'm not ready for just yet. (It's probably a momentary thing.)

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2014-07-25 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
You might say that the sky is a (*ahem*) THOR-oughfare for that mighty Norse god …. yeah, sorry… it's a terrible pun -_-

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2014-07-25 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
It was quite wonderful--and very loud.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2014-07-25 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! The plants were very grateful.

[identity profile] asakiyume.livejournal.com 2014-07-25 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
It's nice when the heavens send the fields a treat like that.

*groan*

:p

It should be sailing over the Atlantic to you now!

[identity profile] mnfaure.livejournal.com 2014-07-25 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It made it to France at least. ;)

What a perfect post to read first thing in the morning, seeing as how I woke to a thunderstorm. :D

Yay!

We are storm-connected!
