fairy jacket

I found a fairy jacket, hanging on a bush, and thought of "Scarborough Fair."

tell her to dry it on yonder thorn

Tell her to make me a cambric shirt,
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
Sewn without seams or fine needlework,
If she would be a true love of mine.

Tell her to wash it in yonder well,
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
Where never spring water or rain ever fell,
And she shall be a true lover of mine.

Tell her to dry it on yonder thorn,
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme;
Which never bore blossom since Adam was born,
Then she shall be a true lover of mine.

Maybe I should go out for walks early every morning - without my cell phone. Yes, I think I should - without my cell phone.

That is such a perfect tiny jacket! I wonder how its owner lost it. One of the sides is shorter than the other, so I'm seeing a near escape from a cat. She thought she had the fairy, but no! only the jacket.

Oh, that is quite lovely!

I am almost certainly not the only person who always heard that as "a candlewick shirt" (because I had a candlewick bedspread, so I knew that was a kind of fabric, so that's a done deal right there). Of course people still hear mondegreens, but in these days of universally-accessible lyrics I doubt many get so embedded as they did when I were young. As in, okay, I confess it: still candlewick to me. Despite my knowing technically better now.

There's well over a thousand words in that image. How The Fairy Lost Hir Jacket…?

Too wonderful for words
